HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting course has been specifically adapted to cater for the childcare and early education sector and is a mandatory requirement for daycare/childcare, Kindergarten, pre-school and OOSH (out of school hours) centres. Covering the benchmark HLTAID003 Provide first aid course, childcare first aid has been extended to include an additional module with in-depth training on asthma, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis and the use of EpiPen’s. HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting has been certified by ACECQA (Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority) to fulfil all the requirements of emergency asthma and anaphylaxis management under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

The course includes the four key competencies and certification accreditations in:

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support
HLTAID003 Provide first aid
HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

Childcare first aid course duration

Childcare First Aid is a 6.5-hour classroom-based course.

All participants will need to perform CPR using a floor-based manakin for a period of at least two minutes to successfully complete the course.

No Online Workbook or E-learning Required

There is no pre-course testing required for this course. Participants will be required to undertake some pre-course reading and complete a short quiz. The quiz can be printed out and completed at any time whilst progressing through the reading material. The time taken to complete the quiz will vary depending on the existing knowledge, skills and experience of the participant.

First Aid Certificate

Sunshine Coast First Aid will issue your certification documents via email on the same day as the course subject to the following criteria:

• All participants must provide their USI number (see below for more details on USI numbers) 24 hours prior to the start of the course.
• All participants must submit their pre-course reading quiz on the day of the training.

Paper copies of the certification are available for $12.00 each and will be posted out to applicants.

USI Requirements

Childcare First Aid is a nationally accredited VET course, therefore in line with the latest government directive, all participants need to have a unique student identifier (USI) number to receive their certification.

USI numbers are free to generate and the application process is quick and easy You can apply for a USI number here – https://www.usi.gov.au/your-usi/create-usi.

Like a tax file number, a USI number only needs to be generated once and it is yours for life. The USI allows the government to keep a secure online record of all your training and qualifications, which is easily accessible in one place.

Australian College of Nursing (ACN)

Sunshine Coast First Aid HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting course is approved by the ACN (Australian College of Nursing) and delivers 7 hours of continued professional development (CPD) inline with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia requirements.
